Our professional events largely focus on personal development seminars and networking. These provide students with opportunities to foster relationships and broaden their knowledge about careers in accounting and finance.

Monash Career Connect - "Building and Impactful Brand" Workshop

14th of August 

This two-hour workshop, held at Monash Clayton in partnership with Career Connect, focused on developing students' interpersonal and professional communication skills. Through workplace scenario activities, members worked in groups to discuss how they would approach various challenges commonly faced in the workplace.

​

The event covered topics such as small talk in networking settings, overcoming awkward interactions, and building a strong personal brand. Students identified their strengths and learned how to communicate their value both online and in person.

​

The evening concluded with a Q&A and networking session, allowing attendees to connect with peers and reflect on the insights gained. It was a practical and engaging session aimed at preparing students for real-world interactions in professional settings.

Financial Services Networking Evening

27th of March

Bringing together BAP chapters from across Melbourne, this large-scale networking night was one of the most significant collaborative events to date. Designed to foster meaningful connections between students and professionals, the event welcomed representatives from leading firms including McLeanDelmo Bentleys, CA ANZ, EY, PwC, Deloitte, Grant Thornton, Protiviti and Korda Mentha.

​

Attendees had the opportunity to engage in open discussions with professionals, ask career-related questions, and gain valuable insights into the pathways available within accounting, advisory and finance. The evening created a relaxed environment for students to practise their networking skills while learning more about each firm’s values and opportunities.

​

The event highlighted the power of cross-chapter collaboration, providing a strong platform for both career exploration and community building within the BAP network.

EY - Mock Recruitment Day
18th of September

Held at the Melbourne EY office, this mock assessment centre gave BAP and CCA members a realistic insight into the recruitment process for graduate and internship roles. Participants engaged in activities that mirrored those found in actual assessment centres, including group exercises, problem-solving tasks and professional communication challenges.

​

The day was designed to build confidence, sharpen professional skills and demystify what is often a daunting part of the application process. Members received feedback and observed how different approaches were perceived, allowing them to reflect and improve ahead of future recruitment rounds.

​

Beyond the formal activities, students had the chance to network with EY professionals and fellow participants, gaining valuable advice on career development and what employers look for during selection. The event proved to be an excellent opportunity for personal growth and industry exposure, equipping attendees with the tools to approach real assessments with confidence.

McKinsey & Company - Case Competition 

5th - 30th of September 

The McKinsey & Company Case Competition provided an immersive opportunity for students to develop their consulting, presentation and teamwork skills. Organised in collaboration with BAP Monash, the competition invited participants to tackle a real-world business challenge and present their strategic recommendations to McKinsey consultants.

​

The competition spanned multiple stages, beginning with a case release and written submission, followed by regional presentations held in McKinsey offices, and concluding with a national final conducted online. Participants competed in teams of two to four, with finalists selected based on the quality of their analysis, innovative thinking and delivery.

​

Winners were awarded cash prizes and mentoring sessions with McKinsey professionals, offering valuable insights into the consulting industry and career development. In addition to gaining practical experience, students received personalised feedback from consultants, helping them reflect and refine their approach.

The event fostered a high level of engagement and growth among participants and further strengthened ties between BAP and one of the world’s leading consulting firms.

CPA - Exploring Career Journeys in Accounting and Finance
1st of October

In collaboration with CPA Australia, this panel event provided students with valuable insights into the diverse career paths available within the accounting and finance sectors.

Held at the CPA office in Southbank, the session featured experienced professionals including CFOs, CEOs and partners, who shared their personal journeys, discussed current industry trends, and offered advice on navigating specialisations and long-term career planning.

​

A Q&A session followed the discussion, giving attendees the opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with the panellists. The evening concluded with an open networking session, allowing students to connect with industry professionals and fellow peers in a relaxed setting.

​

The event offered a meaningful glimpse into the evolving landscape of the profession while equipping attendees with practical advice and new professional connections.

Protiviti - Innovation Workshop 

29th of August

In partnership with global consulting firm Protiviti, this workshop explored the growing importance of innovative thinking within the evolving accounting, finance and business information systems sectors. As the industry continues to shift with the rise of AI and digital transformation, design thinking is emerging as a vital skill for future professionals.

​

Held at Monash Clayton, the evening began with an introduction to Protiviti’s work and early career opportunities, followed by a panel discussion featuring Protiviti consultants and alumni from Monash’s Fastrack program. Panellists shared insights into the value of creativity in problem-solving and how innovative thinking is applied in consulting settings.

​

The second half of the event featured an engaging design thinking workshop, where students worked through practical exercises to develop creative approaches to real-world challenges.

The event left students surprised by the simplicity and versatility of design thinking and inspired many to apply its principles to both academic and professional contexts. The evening also included refreshments and time for informal networking, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

Oracle Workshop Series
26th of March, 24th of April, 13th of August

The Oracle Workshop Series brought together students and industry leaders to explore the growing intersection between business decision-making, data, and emerging technologies. Spanning three engaging sessions, the series introduced BAP members to Oracle’s tools and platforms through real-world case studies and live demonstrations.

​

The first workshop, led by Wayne Goodall, VP of Oracle JAPAC Cloud Application Deployment, focused on data integration and visualisation. Attendees learned how Oracle tools support strategic decision-making by improving data reliability and helping leaders act on key insights.

​

The second session introduced machine learning and enterprise performance management systems. Oracle representatives Shilpa Bhale, Rami Matar and Kaushika Jayalath discussed applications of Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and Enterprise Performance Management (EPM), offering students a valuable look into the future of business analytics.

​

The final workshop, presented by Oracle’s Marissa Alifers, explored the role of technology in ESG reporting. The session included a walkthrough of how Oracle ERP systems can streamline sustainability reporting processes and support transparent corporate governance.

This series gave members a rare opportunity to engage with cutting-edge business technologies while gaining practical knowledge directly from Oracle experts.
