What exactly is Beta Alpha Psi?
Beta Alpha Psi is a prestigious, Accounting honour organisation that is well-known internationally. Beta Alpha Psi mainly focuses on accounting, finance and business information systems students and professionals - however Beta Alpha Psi is not closed off to students of other degrees. The main aim for Beta Alpha Psis is to encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in the financial information field.
How is Beta Alpha Psi different from other clubs and societies?
Beta Alpha Psi is an internationally recognised brand that informs employers that Beta Alpha Psi members are high achieving students who focus on professional and leadership development. As opposed to simply being an Accounting club, Beta Alpha Psi is an Accounting leadership program.
What can I hope to get from being a member of Beta Alpha Psi?
By being a member of Beta Alpha Psi, members are able to relish in a range of professional events that provide networking opportunities and gain insight into a range of Accounting pathways. Through our numerous skill-focused events, Beta Alpha Psi members are able to enhance their skills and techniques they already have and learn new ones to attain an ‘edge’ when applying for jobs and boost their academic studies. Beta Alpha Psi members are also able to give back to the community through our many community-focused events to not only make members more employable, but also encourage members to be ethical, social and responsible citizens. Lastly, members are provided an outlet where they are able to meet like-minded, high achieving Accounting students to make life-long connections with.
What do you mean by chapters?
Chapters refer to the number of branches that Beta Alpha Psi has. As Beta Alpha Psi is an international honour organisation, it has over 300 chapters on college and university campuses all over the world with 300,000+ members initiated since Beta Alpha Psi’s formation. All of the chapters are AACSB and/or EQUIS accredited. The Monash University’s chapter, Xi Epsilon, was the first Beta Alpha Psi Chapter established in Melbourne, Australia.
What are the different types of events you run?
Professional events (e.g. networking and panel events with Grant Thornton and past alumni)
Skill-focused and leadership development events (e.g. Strategic Decision Making workshop, series of wellbeing events, Leadership Day with Josh Farr, Ethics workshop)
Community events (e.g. Run for Refugees, #WeCanDoBetter, R U OK? day, letters to healthcare workers during the heart of COVID-19)
Social Events (e.g. Trivia Nights, Games Nights, BBQ)
What are the hourly requirements and what happens if I don’t fulfill them?
The BAP organisation, with its view to provide holistic development to members, places a number of hourly requirements on its members that they have to fulfil during the course of the year:
20 hours of Professional activities
12 hours of Service activities
As part of the chapter operations, we have to register the hours that each member puts in. If any member falls short of the minimum requirements, unfortunately we are compelled to expel the member and they can no longer be part of Beta Alpha Psi
Is there any membership fee?
There is a one time $US75 fee for each new member for the lifetime of their membership. However, the members do not have to pay the fee. Monash’s Department of Accounting covers it for you.
How do I become a member?
Since Beta Alpha Psi consists of a select pool of high-achieving students, we have a recruitment process that mimics that of most professional organisations. Applications will open in semester two and you can find more about the recruitment process here.
After the preliminary application, we will contact you for further steps should you be selected.
